Tuesday Faster Paced Group – Park & Ride Car Park Leisure Park to Planet Ice Basingstoke Leisure Park.
- Riders: Mark, Simon, Paul, Peter Ball, Robert Stone, Mick, Ray, Vanessa and Alistair.
- Stats: 28.37 miles | 490m ascent | 12.7mph average.
- Departure & Route: Mark, Simon, Paul, PeterB, Robert, Mick and Ray set off with Vanessa joining after the start and Alistair eventually catching up just before Kingsclere [went back for his helmet] g enroute. The route took through lovely country lanes of Monk Sherborne, Charter Alley, Ramsdell, through Wolverton Common to Kingsclere. Long climb up White Hill from Kingsclere before it was undulating, but mainly downhill for 2.5 Miles to Overton, the resurfaced B3051 was a joy to ride on. Initially Mark took the lead, but was soon passed by Alistair who was flying. Coffees and snacks in the Honesty Café Overton. From Overton we made our way to Oakley via Waltham Lane and Steventon. Official finish was at the Leisure Park, Basingstoke.
Friday ride - Change of Plan Ride after rain cancelled the ride on Thursday – Sherborne St John circular
- Riders: Mark, Alistair, Graham, David C and David H.
- Stats: 24.94 miles | 273m ascent | 12.7mph average.
- Departure & Route: We set off at 9:55 having all arriving early. Route took us North East along the Vyne Road, we were moving fast on this stretch and reached the left turn onto Silchester Road clocking an average of 16.2 mph (I think David C had too much porridge for breakfast!!) We headed for Mortimer West End via Latchmere Green and Three Ashes. After Mortimer West End we headed for Upton Nervet via the woodland at 100 Acre Piece. We took a left turn and joined the Kennet and Avon Canal, the initial ¾ of a mile was unpaved and surprisingly dry considering the rain we’ve had. Briefly onto Ufton Lane and again left onto the paved canal path to the Tea Rooms at Aldermaston Wharf for Coffees and delicious cakes. Continuing on another unpaved stretch of the canal we reached the Rowbarge Pub and joining tarmac roads again along Station Road. Traveling south it was nice to have the wind behind us. We crossed the B3051 after Brimpton Common and onwards through West Heath, Charter Alley and Monk Sherborne. After crossing the A340 it was a short ride to the finish.
- Climbs & Encounters: No real hills although we did have a short climb (8.5%) at the start of Back Lane. The only incident was at the third part of the canal stage, where we came across an uncontrolled spaniel with an owner who couldn’t be asked to put it on a lead. This time Mark took the option of stopping and not going in the canal.
- Final Splitting Points: David H left us at the Rowbarge on the K&A to head home off-road
